Smartphone photography

Recently, interest in photography has grown exponentially. Gone are the days when it was not enough to press the button of the apparatus - it was necessary to deal with the development, printing of images. Today, cameras of decent quality are the lot not only of the elite, but also of almost everyone. Modern smartphones allow you to take great pictures!

And how not to remember that no matter how advanced the device itself is - it is important who uses it. Some people cannot take good pictures with a DSLR camera, while others take masterpieces using their phones. The advantage of a smartphone is that it is always with you.

To take a picture, you do not need to prepare the equipment for a long time - you just need to get your phone. And to take really cool photos with your smartphones, there are some tips to heed.

Using programs. A modern telephone is a miniature computer that runs a variety of programs. The photography function is the same program that deals with the interaction of hardware components, lens and matrix. This is why Android and iOS allow you to choose the best option for different shooting modes. Some programs produce better color reproduction, while others create better close-ups. And the list of quality apps is quite large: Pudding Camera, CameraMX, Photosynth, VSCO Cam, Slow shutter cam, Pro HDR, Camera +. You should not limit yourself to standard tools, because there is a good choice. Each program has a lot of settings that will be of interest to the photographer. In poor conditions, you can manually adjust the white balance, set the ISO, and disable autofocus. And that's not to mention the unusual effects that the program can create.

Using the zoom. Most modern smartphones do not have optical zoom, like even the simplest soap cameras. But why not use cropping as a substitute? It's better to forget about the digital zoom of an object right away. This is usually achieved at the expense of a tangible loss of quality. Nobody has canceled the fact that the best zoom is your own legs. Better to come closer or move away. If this is not possible, then it is best to cut out the required part of the frame from the large image during post-processing. Even simple programs allow you to crop, you can do this on the smartphone itself. And there is no need to waste time adjusting the frame size, but just shoot. In a calm environment, you can already build a shot. You may want to leave some details that could be lost in the field due to zooming.

Burst shooting. It is best to shoot the same subject in series. Then you can choose the best shots. Smartphones shoot quickly, digital photos do not take up much space. And before deleting them, it is better to view them on a large computer screen. On the small display of the phone, good photos may not be determined, they seem either overexposed or underexposed. And the color reproduction of the monitor is usually better than that of a small screen.

Change angles. If you don't get an interesting shot, then you just need to change the shooting angle. And do not be afraid of this when photographing something interesting. It is worth moving away from the banal forehead photography, because when you change the angle, the frame can become much more interesting. And the compact size of the smartphone allows you to choose such angles that even a professional with his bulky and high-quality equipment will simply be inaccessible.

Working with light. The flash is a valuable tool for the photographer, but it should be used with great care. If flash is important for professional cameras, then it is doubly important for smartphones. True, it is believed that she "dead" the photograph, distorting its shadows and colors. The flash is good when you need to take pictures immediately, otherwise the moment will be missed. It is better to always look for the source of light, watch how it falls on the object. This is how you get the best shot. The best quality light - morning and evening. But at noon, and even in the sun, you will have to work with high contrast. This can result in artifacts appearing in the images. But the pre-storm sky will give beautiful effects.

Object shooting. The rooms sometimes lack light. You can solve this problem with a regular LED flashlight and a sheet of white paper that compensates for harsh shadows. If you illuminate an object from the top right, then the leaf on the left will reflect the rays and additionally highlight the object. All that remains is to take a picture.

Lens cleanliness. It's a trivial and simple thing to keep your lens clean. However, lovers of mobile photography are often negligent in this matter. We use the phone all the time, put it on different surfaces, in our pocket and bag. When we speak or write an SMS, we do not think that we are leaving fingerprints on the lens. In the picture, it will affect the mysterious blur. The effect, though beautiful, is clearly not what I would like to see in the picture.

Response delay. It is important to remember that the shooting program in phones usually does not work immediately, but with some delay. We pressed the button, and for some moments the device still thinks before capturing the picture. That is why it is important to think ahead of time, like a hunter who shoots not at the game, but at the place where it will be at the next moment. If we are photographing a flower in a field on a windy day, then it is worth considering the response speed and catching the moment between gusts. Yes, this is not easy, but the efforts made will be rewarded with an excellent result.

Lens selection. For those who want more from their smartphone, and all its possibilities have already been explored, we can recommend a special lens for the phone. Prices for such devices start at $ 20, and the size ranges from a button attached to the device with a clothespin. Additional optics will improve the capabilities of the matrix, providing new tools for creating masterpieces. Of course, the choice of glasses is not as rich as for professional photographic equipment. But it is quite possible to acquire an honest telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens and a “fish eye”.

Composition creation. When planning the best shot, whether you're using a professional camera or a phone camera, composition is the most important thing. It is no coincidence that they write about it in manuals for artists and photographers, in books on art history. It makes no sense to talk about this in detail. But it is worth noting that it is no coincidence that in phones when shooting, you can install a grid of a pair of horizontal and a pair of vertical lines. This approach is called the "golden ratio", it is very valuable for any artist, whether he is painting or shooting.

Post-processing programs. Few professionals leave their images without post-processing. In commercial photography, this is generally unthinkable, and for pictures taken from phones, such a procedure is extremely desirable. You won't be able to tweak the shutter speed and aperture on a smartphone, but post-processing programs do it perfectly. And on the best and most famous photo hosting sites, Instagram and Flickr, the simplest processing functions are available. There are many well-known post-processing programs, both free and paid. For example, VSCO Cam, which is known for its variety of filters and settings. Afterlight is great for color grading. Touch retouch is simple and helps to remove small defects in the photo and clone parts of it. SnapSeed has many filters and effects, you can fix focus, adjust sharpness and color rendition. Rookie has a variety of vintage filters adapted for different genres. Free Phonto software will help you add inscriptions with different fonts to your photo. With the help of free and Russified Moldiv you can create collages. And the LensLight app gives you the ability to add glare and glow effects to your photos. Well, where can we go without the famous, but expensive Photoshop?
